ANCIENT BLACK SARCOPHAGUSDISCOVERED IN EGYPT

While working on a building site in Alexandria,Egypt, construction workers recently unearthed a giant black sarcophagus, atype of coffin made from stone. This newly-discovered sarcophagus is made from30 tons of black granite and is the largest of its kind ever found inAlexandria. Archaeologists believe it to be at least 2,000 years old.

As news of the discovery first spread across theInternet, people were hopeful that the sarcophagus might hold the remains of Alexander the Great, the Greek king and general who gave the city ofAlexandria its name. However, when archaeologists opened the sarcophagus,instead of the famous ruler, they found the skeletons of one woman and two menfloating in a brownish liquid.

Researchers are continuing to study the sarcophagusand its contents so they can solve some lingering mysteries. It is unknown exactly how the tomb’s three inhabitants were related to each other or why they wereplaced together in the sarcophagus.
